Who We Are
Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution is an international corporation providing linguistic services for more than 100 languages to the aeronautic, technology, energy, healthcare, insurance, legal and retail industries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Within corporations, Tembua® provides services to human resources, corporate/general counsel’s offices, training, corporate communications, marketing, and web development divisions.
Clients range from small companies just breaking into the overseas market to international companies such as Target, Lockheed/Martin, Boston Scientific, URS, SUPERVALU, Sally Beauty, JC Penney, 3M, Cargill, Ecolab, Guidant, Regis, General Mills, CVS Caremark, YMCA-USA, Healthcare Services Corporation (BCBS of IL, OK, TX, and NM), Piper Jaffray, and St. Jude Medical. Clients include technology and aeronautics corporations, healthcare and insurance companies, retailers, government agencies, utility companies, law firms, and manufacturers.
Our Core Competencies
Tembua® primary core competency is the translation of written, electronic and multimedia material to and from English and foreign languages. This includes website localization and foreign search engine optimization.
Linguistic project management is Tembua®'s primary core competency. Tembua® provides seamless project flow – from quoting to project preparation to translation and editing by teams of professional linguists through final quality control steps. Tembua® also manages the client review process, if desired. To improve delivery speed and reduce costs, Tembua® develops and maintains client-specific glossaries and state-of-the-art translation memories.
Language interpretation is Tembua®’s third core competency. Tembua® offers global conference and 24/7 telephonic interpretation. The interpreting service division of Tembua® provides interpreters for situations including call centers, hospitals, medical clinics, law firms, pharmacies, courts, social services and government agencies.
Upon request, Tembua® provides additional linguistic services including multilingual desktop design and publishing, proofreading, technical writing, custom authoring, editing, transcription and subtitling.
Our Certifications
Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution is nationally certified by WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) and the MN CERT program as a woman-owned business and falls under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s definition of a Small Business Concern. The company is organized as an S-Corp and is a member of the ATA (American Translators Association) and a charter member of the ALC (Association of Language Companies). ISO 9000 and EN 15038 certifications are in progress (Q4 of 2009 completion).
Meaning of Tembua®
Our name, Tembua®, was created out of two Swahili words: Tembo, meaning elephant, and Tambua, meaning communication. We believe the name Tembua® embodies the spirit of our company, from our distinctive logo (the elephant outline) to our core mission: providing clear communication across cultures and languages in such a way that our clients prosper.
Why We Switched Names
Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution started out in 1993 as German Precision Language Services, a small translation company offering document translation primarily into German. As the company grew to offer more languages, “German” was dropped from the name. By the late 1990s, Precision Language Services was offering translation and interpreting services on an international scale for more than 80 languages.
By the early 2000s, the company had grown into a full-fledged global linguistic firm. Precision Language Services now worked in more than 100 languages, providing a broad range of services including translation and localization, 24/7 telephonic interpreting, multilingual design and DTP, custom authoring, foreign search engine optimization and translation memory management.
Having grown from a small translation firm with limited offerings to an international corporation, the company needed a bold new identity to reflect these expanded global services. In 2008, a name search ensued – and Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution was born.
