The Meaning of Tembua

Our name, Tembua®, is a portmanteau word, a blend of two (or more) words and their meanings into one new word
(definition courtesy of Wikipedia).

In our case, the two words are Swahili:

Tambua means to understand.

Tembo means elephant. Look at our logo. Can you see the trunk, ears, tusk? The elephant is our metaphor for customer service.

What happened to Precision Language Services?

Only the name is new. Our ethical framework: the same. Our corporate philosophy: the same. Our customer service: the same. Our capabilities: growing every day!

Tembua®: The Precision Language SolutionSM was founded in 1993 as German Precision Language Services, offering document translation primarily into and out of German.

As the company grew to offer more languages, German was dropped from the name. By the late 1990s, Precision Language Services offered translation and interpreting services for more than 80 languages.

Precision Language Services rapidly grew into a full-fledged global linguistic firm working into more than 100 languages and providing a broad range of services including translation and localization, 24/7 telephonic interpreting, multilingual design and DTP, conference interpreting, custom authoring, foreign search engine optimization and translation memory management.

The company needed a bold new identity to reflect these expanded global services. In 2009, a name search ensued –- and Tembua®:The Precision Language SolutionSM was born, along with an additional tag line: Your Language Concierge Since 1993SM
