TRANSLATION
Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution® provides expert translation of written, electronic and multimedia material into and out of more than 100 languages for clients within many industries.
At Tembua®: The Precision Language Solution® your translation work is never done by a single generic Spanish or German or Russian translator. We have carefully assembled a global network of specialized translators, editors, and proofreaders who consistently work with the same types of documents, developing the familiarity with subject-specific vocabulary terms that only comes from experience. Placement of team members in many time zones allows work to flow rapidly and efficiently from east to west. Our selection process – interviews, samples, and reference verification – goes beyond the requirements of EN 15038. It enables us to match language capabilities, experience, training, and interests in specific assignments. Except for a few truly bilingual individuals, our translators work only into their native languages, even if they hold certifications in both directions. All Tembua® translators have the knowledge, technology, research skills and links to the target population that enable them to perform translation services to meet our clients’ needs. Our quality process assures our clients that we constantly monitor and constantly seek to improve our services.
This abbreviation stands for "computer-assisted translation tools." These special software programs provide the perfect blend of technology and human talent. Once our teams complete a translation, both the source (for example, English) and the target (for example, German) documents are fed into the software, which matches the two versions of the text, segment by segment, and stores it into a translation memory (TM). The next time our client presents a document for translation, that text is analyzed against the TM and the result is a breakdown of new text for translation, full matches against the TM and incomplete or fuzzy matches. As the teams work on the new document, the software suggests translations that have already been used. These wonderful tools allow the linguists to translate much more rapidly while maintaining consistent vocabulary. They allow them to focus on the truly creative work of translation rather than re-translating warranties and warning labels. The result is much smoother translations in less time. And, of course, there are cost savings because the matches against the translation memory are charged at lower rates. Tembua® uses SDL/Trados, the industry leader in CAT tools, to create and maintain client-specific translation memories. If time permits, we also create glossaries of frequently used terms at the beginning of a client relationship. Translations of these terms are submitted to the native speakers among our clients' staffs so that translation begins with pre-approved vocabulary.
Why translate your English materials? Doesn't everyone speak English? In many parts of the world, English training is required, often in the middle school years, and it is certainly one of the most important languages of business and science. Not all documents need to be translated, of course, and we will tell our clients when translation is unnecessary and when to use one of the free translation utilities. If general understanding and a basic information transfer is all that's required, translation may not be warranted. (We will, however, help you write absolutely precise English to communicate as clearly as possible.) Legal documents, instruction manuals, research reports, patents are another story. Where exact understanding is crucial and particularly where liability may be involved, translation is a worthwhile investment that may pay for itself by preventing costly misunderstandings. In some cases, translation is required by law and fines can be steep for noncompliance. There is another consideration. Have you ever laughed at an English sign in a foreign country or been unable to read an "English" menu? Reverse the situation and think about the reactions you want to elicit with your documents.
