Documents translated into different languages require specialized typesetting to ensure the finished product is as visually pleasing as the original. Pages may need to be reformatted to accommodate language expansion or contraction, as well as to ensure that the layout looks like it was created for that language. Text within graphics must be translated and placed; screens captured from localized applications need to replace source language screens.
Proprietary fonts, different encoding, and right-to-left languages can make this a very difficult job. For example, a booklet translated into Arabic needs not only to be right-justified with all bullets running down the right-hand margin, but the booklet needs to begin with what is the back page to the western eye. If there are sidebars on either side of a double-page layout, they need to be carefully moved to the correct places.
